Sailing experience day
The Solent, with its extensive sheltered waters, offers some of the best sailing around. Join us onboard a 37’ offshore sailing yacht for a great day exploring these waters. A sailing experience day is suitable for anyone, whether you are 'learning the ropes' or looking to build on existing sailing skills. Whatever your level you will have the chance to develop your skills as everyone on board is encouraged to participate in the running of the yacht.
Our base at Haslar marina, Gosport, is an ideal location to start any sailing event. We are easily reached by car or public transport, and are berthed just minutes from the entrance to Portsmouth harbour so we can be out in clear water and sailing with no time wasted.
Our yacht, Quantum Leap, a Jeanneau Sunfast 37, is equipped and maintained to the highest standard. Whilst being comfortable and easy to handle, Quantum Leap is also quick and responsive, making her great fun to sail and ideal for an experience day.
The exact itinerary for any experience day will depend on the weather and the tides. A typical day is as follows:
- Arrive 8:30am to meet your skipper the other crew over coffee onboard. After a safety briefing and introduction to yacht, slip the moorings and head out.
- A morning learning to sail or practicing and developing existing skills in the Eastern Solent.
- Lunch at anchor, possibly in Chichester Harbour or Osbourne Bay or, if time permits, a short stop in Cowes.
- PM spent exploring the Solent with more sailing practice, returning to Haslar marina late afternoon.
- Finish the day with a relaxing drink onboard or visit Haslar’s famous lightship before departing for home.
Our sailing experience days are designed to be hands-on and give you the chance to participate in every activity, for example helming and sail handling. If you want to just sit back and enjoy the experience that is fine but if you are ready to have a go, your skipper, who is also and RYA qualified Instructor, will be there to help and encourage you.
